Student
Lafayette College/NYU
Dexter Kennedy is a wheelchair using senior at Lafayette College pursuing a bachelor of arts in psychology in art history. He will graduate from Lafayette the weekend befofe the conference. He is continuing his education at NYU with a master's in International Education. He has studied abroad in two interim trips, the first being for two months in London in the summer of 2024 through Lafayette College and the second being six weeks in Amsterdam in the summer of 2025 through SIT. Dexter has been a wheelchair user since the summer of 2021 where he was paralyzed diving into the Atlantic Ocean, he was supposed to attend Lafayette that fall. He deferred one year to begin to understand his own physical disability and how his body now functioned, as well as the medical systems in place so that he could attend an out of state college. He was the first wheelchair user in Lafayette and SITs history to study abroad and has been an advocate for accessibility changes across his campus leading change through discussions with the college president, chief of staff, chief of finance, accessibility department, and student organizations. His passion for international travel stems from the loving community that he's received from being a Conversation Partner, English for Academic Purposes Mentor, Global Ambassador, and member of his International Students Association. He hopes to foster greater inclusivity in cross cultural exchange with a focus on students with physical disabilities.
