Fulbright Association
Tammy Hettinger is the Executive Director of the Fulbright Association, where she leads the organization’s operations, partnerships, fundraising, and national network of 54 chapters. In this role, she advances member engagement, advocacy for international exchange, and flagship programs such as the J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding and the Pathways to Global Citizenship Youth Summit. She also oversees the Fulbright Lens Speaker Series and the reestablishment of the Fulbright Association Lifetime Achievement Award, strengthening the Association’s visibility as it approaches its 50th anniversary.
Hettinger brings more than two decades of leadership experience across nonprofit and international education organizations. Prior to joining the Fulbright Association, she served as Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships and Development at NAFSA: Association of International Educators, where she expanded global engagement and drove sponsorship growth. Her career also includes executive leadership at Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE), and development and member engagement roles at Humentum, TechnoServe, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Children’s HeartLink, and the National Democratic Institute. She holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from University College London, a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, and professional certificates in leadership and artificial intelligence from Cornell and Vanderbilt Universities.
