Export Control Officer

Ethan Mapes is the University of Oregon’s first full-time Export Control Officer and has been in this role since 2023. He is responsible for building out the UO’s compliance program and for export control and sanctions compliance oversight on all international activity. Prior to this role Ethan spent 10 years in the UO ISSS office where he most recently oversaw Scholar Services. Before joining the UO, he administered Fulbright grants at AMIDEAST. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international politics from the University of Stirling and a master’s degree in international education and develpment from the University of Sussex.
