Harlan Smith has been a career NAFSAn, having worked in international education full-time since 1994. Smith, the Director of the Division of International Student and Scholar Support at the University of South Carolina, has spent the past three decades as an international educator and leader, beginning as a graduate student at USC where he worked with the VP of the International Center and the English Program for Internationals (EPI). He has held several international education leadership positions at universities across the United States, including Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), the University of Vermont, the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio, Cleveland State University, and Kent State University.
Smith has provided volunteer service to NAFSA in various working groups and committee capacities at the state, regional, and national levels.
