Sarah K. Peterson is the Managing Partner of the Minneapolis office of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy LLP. She focuses her employment-based immigration practice on physicians and allied health professionals, academic institutions, start-ups, and the high-tech sector. Sarah is deeply engaged in national immigration advocacy and policy efforts. She actively participates in the International Medical Graduate Taskforce (IMGT) and has served as Chair of the IMGT Government Liaison Committee since 2023.
Sarah is a longstanding leader within the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She currently serves on AILA’s Verification and Documentation Committee and previously served as an Elected Director on AILA’s Board of Governors from 2012 to 2022. She chaired AILA’s Department of Labor Liaison Committee from 2017 to 2021, after serving as Vice Chair and committee member. Her leadership also includes service on AILA’s Case Assistance Committee, USCIS Headquarters Committee, liaison committees for the California and Nebraska Service Centers, and Chair of both AILA’s Healthcare Professionals Committee and the Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter.
Sarah has been ranked in Chambers & Partners (Band 1 since 2025; Band 2 from 2023–2024), listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Best Lawyers in Minnesota since 2020, and named a LawDragon 500 Leading U.S. Corporate Employment Lawyer. She received IMGT’s Roberta Freedman Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 and AILA’s Susan B. Quarles Service Excellence Award in 2021, along with four Presidential Commendations.
An accomplished author and speaker, Sarah co-authored Immigration Law and Procedure in a Nutshell (8th ed.) and has contributed to multiple AILA publications. She testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee in 2022 and participated in a 2024 congressional briefing on the Conrad 30 Program. She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota Law School and holds a joint J.D. and Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota.
